
Mark Tierney : Chairman, mPay Gateway™
Mark has 30 years of experience in the health benefits industry.
He is the founder of three health care technology companies. The first was one of the first utilization review, case management, and heath advocacy nurse line services in the country. Healthmarc’s customer base included GE, PepsiCo, and Chevron. It was purchased by UnitedHealth Group in 1991. The second company was built to support eligibility management and premium payments for Fortune 500 companies. eBenx went public in 1999. Tierney’s latest venture in health care technology is mPay Gateway, a company which is solving the complex payment issues which arise as patients are responsible for more of the costs of their care. Prior to developing these companies, Tierney served as an executive within Kaiser Health Plan, CIGNA Health Plan and United Healthcare. Tierney received his MBA from the University of Minnesota in 1977, and served in the Peace Corps from 1971 to 1973.

Brian Beutner : CEO, mPay Gateway
Brian is a seasoned executive who has been at the center of the intersection of health care administration and banking for ten years.
While at UnitedHealth Group from 1999 through 2005, he was one of the founders of its consumer finance business, chartered Exante Bank, and served as its Chair for three years. He began his career in the private practice of law advising clients on a variety of financing and M&A transactions. From 1991 through 1998 he was an executive at Jostens, Inc, serving as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan Law School.

Chris has extensive venture capital experience, most recently as Managing Director of Appian Ventures.
He enjoys working with entrepreneurial management teams to help sharpen their product definition and their marketing and financial strategies. Before Appian, he spent five years as an associate with Wolf Ventures and Roser Ventures, where he had the privilege of working with companies such as Broadbus Technologies (acquired by Motorola), NextAction Corporation, and Peregrine Semiconductor. Before relocating to Colorado, he worked as an associate with LEK Consulting, an international strategy consulting boutique. He also represents Appian on the board of directors of Auctionpay, Skyetek, and Tendril and is a board observer of Thought Equity Motion. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and speaks frequently on entrepreneurial finance at both Denver University’s Daniels College of Business and the Leeds College of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He serves as Chairman for the Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Association.

the Visa® USA Acquirer Council and as a member of MasterCard® USA's Acquirer Committee and Discover Network Acquirer Advisory
